Ann Aileen (Estes) Short was born in Columbia, SC to Thomas Jefferson Estes and Patricia Ann (Hirleman) Estes.



After high school graduation from Aurelia High School she enrolled in Lutheran Hospitals School of Nursing. She received her Bachelors in Nursing in 1966. She went back to school and attained her Master's degree from Drake University. Always passionate about promoting the art of nursing, Ann became an instructor for nursing and CNA students. She taught at the University of Iowa, William Penn College, Mercy and Drake's Schools of Nursing, DMACC and was an instructor for the Iowa Department of Public Health. Ann was a nurse in area hospitals and served as a school nurse for many years. Ann manned the phones for '1st Call for Help', and was an usher for the Civic Center.Ann attended Westminister Presbyterian church for many years and loved the fellowship with the Koinonia Friends on Sunday nights.



Ann's world revolved around her grandchildren. She didn't miss band concerts, or ball games. She served in the concession stands and coached teams, what ever was needed. She loved going to the movies on weekends.



The eldest of five children, Ann spent her life caring for those in need and those she loved.

She will be welcomed on the other side by her parents, an infant brother Stephen and Bill Estes.

Left to cherish Ann's memory are her daughters, Erin Gibson and Kristina Jackson; her sister, Patty Menke and brothers Tom and Mike Estes; five grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; an aunt E'von Estes and a host of extended family and friends.
