Charles V. Slaughter

August 27, 1952 — October 25, 2014

Charles V. Slaughter

Charles V. Slaughter was born July 27, 1952 to James and Juanita (Cobb) Slaughter in Des Moines, Iowa. Charles attended Rufus King Primary School in Milwaukee and graduated from North Division High School in 1970.

After living in Milwaukee and Los Angeles, Charles settled in Des Moines. He attended DMACC and obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was also a self taught computer whiz, which enabled him to gain employment at CDS as a Computer Operator.

Charles had a love of all things CAR. He would refurbish cars and sometimes customize them. His first car was a 1959 Thunderbird, that he was so proud of. He later would obtain certification as a mechanic which helped him fix cars. He was know throughout the city for his mechanic skills. He rebuilt a 1972 El Camino that he would race. That earned him the nick name of "Speed Boy". He loved going to races at the Newton Speedway.

Next to cars, Charles loved his children and grandkids. He was a strict Dad, demanding that you be home before the street lights came on, but he was fair and encouraging for any thing you wanted to do in life. He was a friendly, generous person that liked 70's R&B music, especially "P-Funk". He would spend weekends watching his grandchildren compete at sporting events.

On October 25, 2014 Charles answered the Master's call to rest. He was 62 years old. Preceding him in death were his father, James Slaughter and his grandparents, Laney and Samantha Wood and Oliver Cobb.

Left to cherish Charles' memory are his mother, Juanita Slaughter; his siblings, Lynette Thornton, Steven Slaughter Craig Slaughter and Lisa Caroll; his daughters, Theresa Slaughter and Dana Stangl and grandsons, Kevin Slaughter and Tory Brassell along with a host to extended family and friends.
