Gary Dudley Lee, Sr

Gary Dudley Lee, Sr. was born April 16, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was one of nine children born to Alice (Henderson) Lee and Adolph Dudley Lee.

Gary completed his formal education in the Des Moines Public School system, but he was a self taught journeyman brick mason. He worked for several construction companies and did janitorial work to support his big family.

Gary was married 53 years ago to Charlene (Smith) Lee. They were committed to and cared for each other and their family of 9 girls and one boy. It was a lot of work but they made it, with the help of the Lord. When his health allowed, Gary attended Mt. Hebron Baptist Church.

Gary was a homebody. He liked to sit on his porch or in the front yard and watch the world go by. He enjoyed listening to blues and gospel music and watching the grandchildren play. He might play a little cards or cut a step or two, if his favorite song came on; what ever made him happy. Sometimes Gary went fishing and he was a good cook. He loved meat loaf so he learned to make it and then made it better with gravy.

Gary passed away peacefully in his home on July 27, 2016. He was 73 years old. Preceding him in death were his parents, Adolph and Alice Lee; his siblings, Donald, Tim, Harold, Silas, Nita and Claire and his grandson Jonathan.

Gary leaves cherished memories with his wife, Charlene; his children, Pat (Jeff), Tricia, Ann (Terry), Shirley, Alice, Yvetta, Mary, Terrina, Gary Lee, Jr. and Tina Lee; his siblings, Elder Joseph Lee and Dorothy (Lee) Malone; a large number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
