Joan M. Loggins

Joan Marie Loggins was born May 3, 1934 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Benjamin L Dant and Mable Alea Ilea Alvina Buckman Dant.

Joan was educated in the Ottumwa Public Schools before the family moved to Des Moines approximately 65 years ago. She received her secondary education and graduated from Des Moines Tech High. After graduation, Joan was employed by the Federal Government as a Adjudication officer for the Wage and Hourly Compliance Division. Plainly said, she made sure you were paid correctly. She worked there for over 30 years before retiring. She was a member of Maple Street Baptist Church until her health began to fail.

Joan was married once and from that union her only child, L.W., was born. Joan loved L.W. (affectionately know as Tony) immensely and seemed to know he passed away just a few weeks before her.

Joan loved family gatherings where she would cook the best mac n cheese, cherry pie or German chocolate cake in the family. She was the dessert specialist. Joan loved to play Bingo, she also loved to read and go to garage sales. In her younger years she loved traveling and fishing.

On September 1, 2014, Joan passed away with her family by her side. She was 80 years old. She was preceded in death by her only child, L.W. (Tony) Loggins; her siblings, Tilton Dant, Sr, Marcella Dant and Virginia M. McCurn.

Joan is survived by her brother, Benjamin Dant; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Joans quiet gentle spirit will be missed by all her knew her.
