Mr. Douglas John Althaus

Doug Althaus was born in Watertown South Dakota, on September 18,1953 to Robert Althaus,Sr. & Joyce Althaus. He was raised with his sister Helen and two brothers, Robert Jr. and James.

He attended Amos Jr. Tech High School, which many know as Central Campus.

Doug served in the U.S Navy with the rank of Seamans Apprentice. He worked in a few of the family businesses; a slaughterhouse in Eddyville, IA, a security company known as Electronic Security as an Installer and salesman for security, surveillance, and fire alarm equipment.

He attended Cornerstone Family Church where he served as an Usher. As a testament to his faith he also provided maintenance for the building along with a team of his friends and church goers.

He married Shelly Overton in 1991 and was married for 7 years. Their wedding service was conducted at the Cornerstone Family Church in Winterset, IA. Their family started small with their children Christopher and Michael Brown then their union was blessed with three more children, David, John and Benjaman.

Doug was known to be quite talented in regard to making ideas a mechanical reality. Many people often referred to him as 'MacGyver'. He created several inventions but none of which he ever applied for patents. There was never a mechanical problem for which he had no solution.

He was a dedicated worker who sought the completion of any project, personal or business. He had many stories he liked to tell and every one of them he told with great vigor and enthusiasm.

Douglas John Althaus passed away on October 18, 2013. He is preceded in death by Shelly Rae Althaus, Robert Althaus, Sr., and Joyce Althaus.

Douglas was survived by his children, Benjamin, John, and David Althaus, Michael and Christopher Brown; his siblings, James and Robert Jr. Althaus, and Helen Drake; along with a many extended family and friends.
