Anthony Duke

Anthony Duke, passed away on July 3, 2025, at the age of 64, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Born on May 13, 1961, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Jerry Russell and Paula Duke, Anthony was raised in the heart of the city where he attended North High School before transferring to Tech High School, from which he graduated. 

Following his education, Anthony honorably served in the Army, demonstrating his dedication to his country. After his time in the military, he embarked on a successful career in information technology, specializing in various cyber security roles. Anthony took pride in being a certified hacker, reflecting his meticulous nature, a trait that extended to every aspect of his life. He was known for his sharp dressing and his love for cars, taking great care to keep them clean and maintained.

Anthony married Annette Edwards, with whom he welcomed his daughter, Aapri “Punkie Boo”. His baby girl represented one of his proudest achievements, and he often spoke fondly of the joy that fatherhood brought to his life.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Anthony enjoyed indulging in his hobbies. He had a passion for sports, particularly refereeing basketball and volleyball games. As a diehard fan of the Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Lakers, and Los Angeles Rams, his enthusiasm for these teams was a bonding point with friends and family. He also found joy in playing Xbox and treasured the time spent with his beloved daughter, Aapri "Punkie Boo" Duke.

He is survived by his devoted daughter, Aapri Duke; siblings Venetta Linton, Gary Russell, Marvin Russell, Olivia Russell, Mary (John) Willis, Regina Russell, Joyce Russell, Travis Lewis, and Terrence Lewis; a host of aunts and uncles; many nieces and nephews; numerous cousins and friends, each of whom carry a piece of his legacy.

Anthony was preceded in death by his parents; niece LaTice Parrish; cousin Yohnce Clay; mother-in-law Floriene Edwards; and several uncles and aunts, all of whom he remembered with love and fondness.

A visitation will be held at Hope+Elim Church in Des Moines on July 12, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service starting at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
