Ben White Jr.

Ben White Jr., a cherished soul whose laughter echoed through halls and hearts, departed this world on November 15, 2024, in Des Moines, Iowa. Born on April 27, 1946, in the vibrant community of Greenville, Mississippi, Ben's journey through life was crafted with the brush strokes of a talented artist and the humor of a natural-born comedian.

Ben's formative years were spent enveloped in the warmth of family and creativity, nurtured by his grandparents after moving to Meridian, Mississippi. His time in Greenville laid the foundation for a life defined by resilience and artistry. A proud graduate of high school in this quaint Southern town, he carried forward a spirit of innovation that manifested in his remarkable mural for the Willkie House in Des Moines—an indelible mark of his talent that speaks to the fabric of the community even today.

Known affectionately for his ornery nature, Ben White Jr. brought a smile to faces near and far. His wit and charm were as bright as the murals he painted, bringing joy to the lives he touched. He embraced the arts and served as a beacon of creativity in every room he entered, leaving an imprint that will continue to flourish in generations to come.

Ben is survived by his loving daughter, Shalisha Barber, step daughters Karen Dameron, Tracy, Pamela and Angela Wright  He also leaves behind the warmth of his grandchildren, Scott Perez Jr. and Scotniesha Perez, siblings Irene Holmes of Des Moines, IA and Bernice White of  Minneapolis, MN,  great grandchildren along with a cherished host of nieces and nephews who will carry forth his spirited legacy.

He joins in eternal rest his Grand daughter Scalicity Perez, father, Ben White Sr., and his mother, Lola Marsalis, alongside his sisters, Barbara jean Sloan, Dean Dudley, and Ernest White. Together, they await him in a peace that mirrors the beauty of the murals he created.

As the sun sets on the life of Ben White Jr., we remember a man whose laughter danced through the years and whose artistry will forever embellish the landscape of our hearts. His vibrant spirit will always inspire, reminding us to find the beauty in the everyday and the joy in each moment shared.
