Milton Collin Young, Sr. was born September 22, 1937 in Durant, Mississippi to Robert Smith and Garnett Young (McGee).
Milton was educated in the Durant School system and graduated from the Holmes County Training School.
Milton left Mississippi looking for a better life and job opportunities. He first went to Waterloo but decided Des Moines might be a better fit. He found a job at Meredith Printing and worked his way to Team Leader.
While riding the bus to work one morning he sat next to a pretty lady named Helen. The rest is history. They were married March 30, 1961 and loved and cared for each other 57 years. Three children were born to this union, Deborah, Milton, Jr. and Lori.
Milton accepted the Lord Jesus as his Savior and what a change it made in his life. Corinthian would never be the same on Sunday morning. When Milton became a Deacon he was very vocal as an encourager for his pastor. His famous, "There you go" could be heard at every service. Deacon Young was famous where ever he went; for his great smile, firm handshake, sharp suits and most of all, his love of Jesus. He loved reading his bible, visiting the sick, Bible Study, the Care Ministry, singing in the Mens Fellowship chorus and supporting the Central District Deacons. If he wasnt at a church function you would find him spending time with his family and grandkids, visiting his mother, re-arranging the furniture, or talking on his citizens band radio (CB radio).
Deacon Young was preceded in death by his father, Robert Smith and aunt, Eloise Cooper.
Left to cherish Deacon Youngs memory are his wife, Helen Young; children, Deborah (Robert) Davis, Milton (Wilma )Collin Young, Jr. Lori Young; his mother, Garnett McGee; grandsons, Julian (Chandler) Uwazie, Milton (Dawn) "Collin" Young V, Byron Cortez (Beverly) Young, Hamilton Blake Young, Jordan Willis, Donovan Jakobi Kelly and Darren Cordell Young; a sister, Mary Louise Wilder and brother, Alvin Moore; great grandchildren, Peyton Uwazie, Tatum Young, Kayden A.
