Deaconess Dorothy M. Sheley Obituary (1948

Dorothy Marie (Crawford) Sheley was born on May 10, 1948 to Sloan Edward Taylor and Dorothy Marybell Crawford in Des Moines, Iowa. She was educated in the Des Moines Public Schools and graduated from Tech High School in 1966. Dorothy was married in 1965 to James Comer Sheley Jr. and with this union three beautiful children were born, Leon, Antonio and Tinya. Dorothy was a faithful member of Corinthian Baptist Church. She served in many capacities in church. She was the church secretary for over 20 yrs, President of Usher Board #2, Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher and choir member just to name a few. She also was active in the following ministries: Primetimers, Mission, New Members, Prison and the Deaconess board. As if working in all those auxiliaries wasnt enough, she served as President of the Central District Womens Department and was active in state conventions. As you can see, serving God and his people was Dorothys passion and there was not much she would say no to. Dorothy went Home to be with her Lord on June 20, 2018 surrounded by the comfort of her loving family. She passed peacefully at HCI Kavanaugh House in Des Moines, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Marybell Crawford; father, Sloan Edward Taylor; siblings, William Crawford, Johnny Taylor, Colleen Taylor and Martina Morrow; and ex-husband, James Sheley, Jr. Dorothy will be missed by her children, Leon, Antonio and Tinya Sheley; her grandchildren, Edward, DeMarco, DeShawn and Antoinette Miller, Detray Woods, Latinya, Leon Jr. and Shylynn Sheley and Drake Stark; great-grandchildren, Martrez Barnes-Miller, DeMarco Miller, Jr., Jamarian Brooks, Martaejia Barnes, DeMaysia, Marijana, DeMari, Amara, and Martez Miller, Trayvon Martin, Jaliyah, Jeremiah and Ezirah Sheley; siblings, Julie Washington of Des Moines, IA, Michael Crawford of Las Vegas, NV, Sloan (Lois) Taylor Jr. of Franklin Park, NJ, Stacey (Clifford) Moore of St. Croix, MN, Linda Watkins of Altadena, CA, Edward (Massi) Taylor of Pasedena, CA, Alice Richardson, Joyce Bruce and Melissa Bruce all of Des Moines, IA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.Visitation Wednesday, June 27, 2018 10:00am - 5:00pm Christ Apostolic Temple Visitation (with family present) Wednesday, June 27, 2018 3:00 - 5:00pm Henderson's Highland Park Funeral Home Funeral Service Thursday, June 28, 2018 Starts at 10:00am Henderson's Highland Park Funeral Home Interment following funeral service Corinthian Baptist Church
