Diana L. Brown, 73, of Des Moines, Iowa passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at the Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Henderson’s Highland Park Funeral Home. Immediately following her visitation her funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Valerie James officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Diana was born on April 27, 1950, in Burlington, Iowa to William “Bill” and Hazel (Heidbreder) Bentrim. She grew up in Burlington where she attended Burlington High School. Diana raised her children then went to Southwestern Community College where she earned her Registered Nursing license. She worked in various hospitals and nursing facilities over the years.

She lived for her family and to spend time with them. Her favorite time of the year was going to Tony and Kristi's farm for the week and enjoying the country scenery and wildlife. She also loved feeding the squirrels in her yard and could even feed them peanuts out of her hand. Diana loved fishing, puzzles of all kinds, romance novels, many kinds of craft projects, bingo and crocheting too.

Those left to cherish her loving memory are her children Anthony (Kristi) Brown of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Carry (Nuha) Dampha of Des Moines, IA, and Roxanna (Lawrence) Gammage of Des Moines, Ia; grandchildren Cory Hawk, Katie Kirkpatrick, Daniel Clark, Hailley Widmer, Holly, Rob, Seth and Emily Whitten, Vanity Newell, Shelby Daughty, Deion Lewis, and Tautiona Simon; great-grandchildren Alex Kirkpatrick, Emmie Hawk and Blake Hawk, Tegarius Angela, Iyona Roberts, Legacy and Legend Heard, and Kayzlynn and Tayaire Watson; sister Jackie DeFrates; nephew Troy DeFrates; nieces Michon DeFrates and Destiny Ruschmeyer; and many cousins.

Diana was preceded in death by her parents; brother Larry Bentrim; and sister Constance Ruschmeyer.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Children’s Cancer Research at the University of Iowa.

Henderson’s Highland Park Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Diana and her family.
