Doris Anderson

Doris Anderson was born on January 21, 1929 to the late Thomas Mayberry and Earla Mayberry. Doris was raised in Des Moines, IA where she graduated from Des Moines Technical High School and was the valedictorian of the class of 1946. Doris graduated from Drake University with honors. Doris was married to Alvin Anderson and from this union they had three children, two daughters and one son.

Doris fulfilled her dream of becoming a teacher and taught English at Warren Harding Junior High school in Des Moines IA. In 1969, Doris went to work for IBM as an Educational Representative where she remained until her early retirement at the age of 55. Doris had a passion for learning and later received a Master's Degree in Human Resources from Bowie State University in Maryland. After her retirement from IBM, Doris dedicated her life to community and civic activities. As a result of her volunteer efforts, she received special recognition by both the Clinton and Obama administrations. Doris was also selected as one of 5,500 individuals to carry the Olympic Torch across America for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games.

On June 24, 2013 the Lord called Doris home to glory. She is survived by her daughters, Dr. Karen Wells, Mrs. Vicki Rothchild; brother, Donald Mayberry, and a number of nephews, grandsons, great grandsons, great granddaughter and a host of extended family members including numerous friends all across the country.

Doris life was full and complete and she leaves a legacy of kindness, love, respect and quiet determination for serving the Lord, her family and others wherever she went.
