Doris passed away on November 25, 2022. A viewing will be held from 10:00-12:00 on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Union Baptist Church with a funeral service starting immediately after. The family would be honored if guests would wear Doris’ favorite color, teal or turquoise.

Doris Ruth McQuerry was born on September 26, 1929 to Samuel Singleton Sr. in St Louis, MO. Doris received her primary education in Pershing, IA. The family moved and she finished school in the Des Moines Public School System where she graduated from North High.

Doris worked as a Medical Case Manager for Polk County. Doris was a faithful member of Union Baptist Church for over 60 years. Sister Doris and her friend Juanita Peyton went to all of the local church services and community events in town. If you saw one, you saw the other. Sister Doris loved her some CHURCH. She loved good church music, also Doris was in a bowling league, she enjoyed playing bid whiz. In her spare time, she was a crochet enthusiast. She made blankets for all the grandkids and babies in the church. Doris was a great cook, she enjoyed spicy foods; and her Chitterling and hot sauce dinners were a favorite. She had a special talent for sweets; she made great fudge, peanut brittle, and cinnamon rolls (and gave them all away). Doris really enjoyed shopping, especially at garage sales and TV shopping networks from the comfort of her own home.

Doris was called home to be with the Lord on November 25, 2022. She was preceded in death by: her father, Samuel Singleton Sr. and stepmother, Betty Singleton Cruse; her husbands, James Brown and Clarence (Mose) McQuerry; daughter, Charisse (Brown) Singleton; siblings, Timothy Singleton, James Singleton, and Sandra Elliott.

Left to cherish her memories are her children: Charmaine Wade, James Brown and Rodney Singleton Sr.; grandchildren, Nikki, Terri, Tanesha, Davonna, Charisse, Rodney Jr. and Ardelle; great grand children, Darshan, Zahj, Tyeece, Naria and Marcy; great great grandchildren, Jursei, Dia, DeVonni; siblings, Pam Williams, Sheila Carson, Aurelia Singleton, Sam Singleton Jr., Sherry Singleton, Richard Singleton and Laural Clinton; her special friends, Juanita Peyton and Floria Minor; and a host of extended family, church family and friends.
