Dorothy A Carter passed away on July 31, 2023.

Dorothy Anner Carter was born May 10, 1946 to Sarah Lee Brassfield in Meridian, MS. Her father’ name has been lost in time, but her mother was a strong willed woman with a great work ethic that carried her far.

Dorothy attended Kinterbish Public High School in Cuba, AL. She was looking for a better life for herself and the children, so she moved to Des Moines in 1972. She found opportunities for work as a CNA, Housekeeper, private duty caretaker, and cook.

Boy! Could Dorothy COOK! You name it, she could make it. She could probably make an old shoe taste like a tender steak. Greens, black eyed peas, chitterlings and fish were often on the menu. She loved fishing and could cook what she caught. She didn’t skimp on the ingredients., so the food was always fresh and tasty. Besides cooking and fishing, Dorothy kept a clean house and would often “entertain family and friends” with her dress up dinners. After dinner friends and folks could play cards or even domino’s until the wee hours of the morning. Ms. Dorothy could sing a little and loved to dance the night away. She loved listening to old school blues and even Rhianna.

She loved her family and was the glue that kept them all together. Sadly, Ms. Dorothy passed away July 31, 2023 peacefully in her sleep. She left us to join her late husband, Howard Young; her daughter, Youlanda Young; son, Howard Young; siblings, Joyce Brassfield and Jeanette Carter; grandchildren, Meeka and Ray Young; and her companion and friend, Pedro Rameriz (Juan Hernandez).

Left behind to mourn her absence are her children, Brenda, Linda, Jeronda (Rudy), and Fermerra Young; Fermin and Fermani Maldonado; grand children, Rishon, Tyrea, Edward, Howard, Trisha, Terrell, Dorothy Kimboy, Alicia Suray, Mekeysha Rutto, Darwin Jr. Young and Sequoia Stanton; her great - grands, JaRon Young, Johann Campbell and a host of other great - grand children and her siblings, Jacqueline Brassfield, Joyce Brassfield, Jeanette Carter, Andre Cartier, Jerome, Arthur, Robert Brassfield, and Roxy Lynn Brassfield; along with extended family and friends.
