Evelyn Louise Chase

Evelyn Louise (Weezy) Chase, died peacefully on December 21, 2022 just short of her 97th birthday.

Louise was born in Des Moines, Iowa in 1926 to Henrietta and Joseph Dengle. She was the youngest of eight siblings, all now deceased.

She lived in Des Moines all her life and was in the first graduating class from Technical High School in 1943. After that, she worked for the federal government for several years. Later in life she returned to the Veterans Health Administration

where she worked for more than 20 years. Weezy married Lyle Wayne Chase in 1948. Lyle was a neighbor and good friend of two of Louise’s brothers. The marriage came with a step-daughter, Judith Ann, and in 1953 their son, Gregory Kempton Chase, joined the family. Louise enjoyed all manner of indoor and outdoor activities with her family and friends.

She was very competitive and joyfully strove to see who could eat the most corn-on-the-cob, make the best fudge, or beat her

at any card game to name just a few of the contests. She loved to travel and as her siblings and their families left Iowa, she had more places to explore. She often joined nieces and nephews when they vacationed in many North American destinations

and she visited England, Ireland, and Norway with friends and family.

Louise is survived by her children, Judith of San Antonio, TX, and son-in-law, Ted Brockman; and Greg of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren, Kimberly Crabtree of Bridgeport, TX and Jennings Crawford of Austin, TX; three great-grandsons and many loving nieces and nephews and dear friends.

A service and luncheon celebrating Weezy’s life will be held at Bethany Church at 12:00 noon on Sunday, January 29, 2023 (her 97th birthday) at 720 NE 52nd Avenue, Des Moines.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Church and the Animal Rescue League.
