John Thomas Skipper

Mr. John T. Skipper passed away November 30, 2022.

A Tribute service is planned for 10:00am on Friday, December 9,2022 at the Henderson’s Chapel.  


John Thomas Skipper was born June 7, 1943 to John J. and Mornetta (Miller) Skipper. He was raised and educated in Des Moines and graduated from Des Moines East High. After high school, he did a brief stint in the Naval Reserves.

John was very good with his hands and had a real talent for mechanical things. He spent most of his working life as an auto mechanic and owned Skips Body shop in Omaha for years.

John was a very friendly guy. He didn’t meet strangers. He valued relationships and had an abundance of friends.

John was a great father. Supportive honest and caring. He would call or text each of his children daily. He was like that with the grandchildren also. They adored their grandfather and he loved them back. He was an avid bowler and travelled with the league to tournaments. John was a jokester who tried to sing a little. He also tried to cook a little. He was famous for his guacamole and salmon.

John suddenly passed away on November 30, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mornetta Skipper and Michelle Skipper. ;

Left to cherish John’s memory are his children , Tracy Skipper, John Skipper, Afriqua Skipper and Johntia Edwards; his grandchildren, Theodore Skipper, Tori Skipper, Avalena Sweatte, Tracy Sweate, Taylor Skipper, John Skipper, Aniyah Skipper, Jarrett Skipper, Autumn Skipper, Aubrina Skipper, Jennia Skiper and Jayden Walker; his 6 great grandchildren, beloved extended family in the Duke, Robinson, Miller and Edwards families and many friends.
