La Queta Murphy

La Queta Murphy, 86, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away at University Park Nursing and Rehab in Des Moines on Saturday, February 3, 2024. Her visitation will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Kyles AME Zion Church from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Immediately following her visitation her funeral will begin at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

La Queta M. Johnson was born on March 28, 1937 in Mobly, Missouri, to Seth Anderson and Maureen Johnson. She moved to Des Moines at a young age. She was educated through Des Moines Public Schools and graduated from North High School in 1955. La Queta received an Associate Degree and moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1976. She worked for Farmers Insurance where she retired from and moved back to Des Moines. 

La Queta was known for independence. She was a member of Knights of Pythias. She was a great cook and loved her coffee. She crocheted, knitted, was an avid reader and loved murder mysteries. La Queta will always be remembered for being a good and loving mother to Dennis, Jeff, and Preston. 

La Queta passed away on February 3, 2024. She was preceded in death by her loving parents; Rosetta Skillman; son, Dennis Anderson; loving brother, Donnie Johnson; sisters Bonita Kelly, Barbara Barnes, Pearlene Burk. 

Those left to cherish La Queta in memory are her sons, Jeff and Preston Johnson, 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Maxine Long and a host of nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.
