Lois Mae Edwards was born in Des Moines, IA on July 16, 1935 to parents, Frank Lee and Daisy Lee Edwards along with two brothers, Cecil and Raymond and sisters, Nora, Ethel and Bernice.

Lois attended Crocker Elementary, Washington Irving Jr. High and graduated from North High School in Des Moines, IA.

After graduation, for the next 40 years, Lois enjoyed running a daycare out of her home and in 2007 she retired.

Mother Lois loved the Lord and was baptized at an early age. For many years she was a member of Union Baptist Church where she was served on the Senior Usher Board. In 2008 she became First Lady of Second Baptist Church in Ottumwa, IA. In 2012, when God called her husband to establish Greater Life Baptist Church she became a founding member and First Lady, where she remained until her passing.

Lois was wed to Leslie Buchanan, Jr. on August 5th, 1977 at Soul’s Haven Chapel in Des Moines, IA. They were married 44 years, 5 months and 1 day.

Mother Lois loved children and young people. When Leslie taught Lois how to fish, fishing became a passion for her. Another passion for Lois was shopping! She loved to dress and owned a large array of outfits and over 100 pairs of shoes. Lois was a meticulous housekeeper; she had a place for every thing. She would leave a note to remind you where things belonged. Lois loved to watch the Price Is Right, The Young and Restless and Judge Judy. Back in the day, she watched Another World and People’s Court with Judge Wapner. Her favorite comedy show were reruns of In Living Color and Martin. Mother Lois loved to cook and specialized in Peach Cobblers, Carrot cake, and her homemade lasagna was DELICIOUS! Her favorite expressions were: “Save some for Virginia”, “Land O’ Goshen”, “All Righta Ida” and “MY LANDS!“ Lois loved family and family get-togethers. She had a great sense of humor and would reminisce about funny events from her past.

Lois transitioned from the Present to Eternity on January 6th, 2022 to be rejoined with her parents, Frank L. Edwards; mother, Daisy L Suber; stepfather, E. E. Suber; siblings, Raymond Edwards, Ethel Collins, Bernice Davis, Cecil Edwards, Nora Fowler and her daughter, Carmen J. Martizna.
