MariaJean Jackson was born December 10, 1945 to Alonzo Thomas and Etta Mae Flynn in Des Moines, Iowa.



MariaJean lived most her life in Des Moines, IA but also lived in Minnesota and Oklahoma at one time. She attended and graduated from Des Moines Tech High School. She was a Youth Counselor for YESS (Youth Emergency Servicing Shelter) and retired from there in 2004.

MariaJean was a realist, very creative, caring, outgoing, and active in her community. She belonged to the Pool League at Scores Sports Bar, wrote poetry for the Des Moines Register, Tribune, and The Communicator News. She enjoyed playing Tunk, Bid West, making jewelry, arts and crafts, cooking, fishing and dancing. She especially loved her family and was very close to her great-granddaughter, Shawnisty.



On July 12, 2014, MariaJean passed peacefully from this life. She was preceded in death by her daughter, JameDia Hines; her parents, Alonzo and Etta Mae Thomas; her sister, Lonnie Thomas; and her grandmother, Willa Mae Flynn.



Left to cherish her memory is her children, Laechia M. Jackson and TalBray L. (Rochelle) Jackson, Sr.; her God daughter, Mica King; her grandchildren, RaShawnda Hines, ShawnDre Hines, TalBray Jackson, Jr., MarTwea English, Sr., Sander Johnson, II, and Isaiah Jackson, Sr.; her great-grandchildren, Shawnisty Hines, MarTwea English, Jr., Isaiah Jackson, Jr., Sa'Maria Johnson, Santana Johnson, and JayShawn English; her sisters, Vanessa Wright, Sr. and Doreen Johnson, Sr.; her brothers, Reginal Pettiet Alonzo Thomas, Sr., Stephen Johnson, Sr.; her special nephew, Bishop Nathan "PoPo" L. Berry, Sr.; her best friend and dog, Elo; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
