Mia Celeste Holmes

Mia Holmes passed away August 3, 2020. A visitation was held at Henderson's Funeral Home Monday August 10th from 10 am to 2 pm. A Celebration of life at Mc Henry Park on Oak Park Avenue has been postponed to a later date because of the inclement weather. CDC recommendations for masks and social distancing will be followed at the funeral home.

Mia Celeste Holmes was born on May 3, 2003 to Rhia Ortega and Byron Holmes in California. She spent a portion of her childhood in California before moving to Des Moines, IA with her mother and siblings. While in Des Moines she attended Walnut Creek school working towards earning her High School Diploma.

During her short time on this side, Mia lived a full life. She discovered a love of food at a young age. Eventually, Mias love for eating developed into a love for cooking as well. Her shrimp alfredo was always a welcome sight at the dinner table. As a teenager, Mis room was her world. She took time to decorate it so it rivaled the rooms you see on television. Now Mia was not just about homemaking and dcor. She was a born Boss Lady that had to be in control. You knew she was talking business if she told you that Momma Mia is the Boss, so figure it out! Aware of her sharp wit, Mia always made sure she looked the part. Alluring hairstyles, fashionable casual wear and manicured nails were a must!

And suddenly she was gone. On August 3, 2020, the Lord called Mia home. Before she left, Mia left a little piece of herself in her daughter, Eliana Marnee` Logan. God had a special place for her as well. Mia and Eliana were welcomed into eternity by siblings, Kenya, Bryson and Brayliah Ortega.

Mias fun loving, free spirit will be missed by her parents, Rhia Ortega and Byron Holmes; remaining siblings, Andra, Byron, Olivia, Jaden, Xzavia and Zayonna; grandparents, Evelyn Godwyn, Peter Ortega and Dorothy Hardiman; a host of cousins including Latasia and Aria; godparents, Deron Wilson, Keisha Couch and Dwayne and Ondrea Scott and a host of other relatives and friends.
