Mr. James Wilbert Cook, Jr. was born in Alabama on June 8, 1925 to James Cook, Sr. and Georgia Ford.



James enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as a young man and worked as a self-employed entrepreneur most of his life.



James married the love of his life Mary Coplen in 2004 at Morningstar Baptist Church where they were both members.



James was a strong, no nonsense type of guy, and was sure to always be on time. He loved fishing, traveling, cowboys, soap operas and blues music. He had unconditional love for his family, especially his grandchildren.



James passed away on January 1, 2014 at the age of 88. He was preceded in death by his children, Johnny Cook, Darlene Macnutt, Dell Blanks, Ronald Alton, Glenda Johnson, Brenda Coplen, Calvin Copeland, and Jimmy Johnson; his parents, James and Georgia Cook, Sr.; and his siblings, Mildred Ball and George Cook.



James will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary Cook; his children, James Cook, III (Miami, FL), Jeffrey (Delphine) Blanks, Joyce Blanks, Dennis (Jennifer) Cook, Carolyn Everett, all of Chicago, IL, Terry Cook (Greenbay, WI), LaDonna (Willie) Norman, Jannie Copeland, Larry (Margaret) Copeland, LuEthel (Johnny) Williams, Mildred Coplen, Jacqueline Johnson, Ira Johnson, and Ivan (Jennifer) Johnson, all of Des Moines, IA; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; along with a host of extended family and friends.
