Mrs. Maria Hawkins

Mrs. Maria Hawkins was born January 6, 1945 in Des Moines, Iowa to Charles and Eleanor Boston. She remained a resident of Des Moines her entire life. Additionally, Maria was a dedicated member of St. John's Catholic Church.

Maria graduated from East High School in 1963 and went on to attend Grandview College. She worked for over ten years at Forest Avenue Library and was an avid reader who possessed a vast collection of books of all genres. She inherited her artistic skills from her father and utilized this talent by painting several pictures using watercolors and oils in her spare time.

In 1965, she married Larry Hawkins, Sr. and from their forty-eight year union they had five loving children who she is survived by, daughters, Senta Hawkins, Bauni (Darron) Motton of Columbus, Ohio, Malika Sterling of Kansas City, Missouri, Pia Hawkins, and her son Larry (Alesha) Hawkins, Jr.

Maria, 68, passed away December 22, 2013 at Urbandale Healthcare Center in Urbandale, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Boston; and best friend/sister, Mary Jo Boston-Flanigan.

Along with her five children, she is survived by her caring mother, Eleanor DeVan-Boston; her sister, Ellen Boston; and her brothers, Charles Boston of Denver, Colorado, Thomas Boston, Sr. of Novi, Michigan, Kelvin Boston of San Antonio, Texas; and her ten grandchildren.
