Pastor Stephen Kim Tindrell

Stephen Kim Tindrell Sr. was born on August 4, 1956, to Mildred Marie Wesley and Everett Alver Tindrell in Des Moines, Iowa. He was educated through the Des Moines Public School System and graduated from Tech High School. Stephen continued his education at Des Moines Area Community College and at Open Bible Center. As a young man, Stephen also served in the Marines.

Stephen worked at the Casey’s Distribution Center for over 35 years. In 1998, Stephen was ordained by Bishop Bassett and became pastor of New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ. He served his congregation for over 25 years. Pastor Tindrell was also a District Choir Director and sang in the State Choir. As part of his pastoral responsibility, he also served as a prison minister in Mitchellville for over 10 years.

Stephen Tindrell was very active as a young man. He enjoyed fishing, walking, and playing basketball. He was a great swimmer and runner. Stephen was also an avid KC Chiefs and Hawkeye fan; he also liked watching football. He was a great cook; steak, greens and cabbage were a family favorite. Stephen was also musically gifted, like the rest of the family. He taught himself how to play the organ and could play by ear.

Pastor Stephen Tindrell passed away on July 8, 2023. He was preceded in death by his father, Bishop Everett A. Tindrell; his mother, Mildred M Tindrell and sister, Kimberly Tindrell.

Left to cherish the memory of Pastor Stephen Tindrell are his children; Stephen Tindrell Jr., Richard Tindrell and Ashley Tindrell; David Cohen , Sarah McIntosh, Scott Byrd, and Abena Imhotep; siblings, David Tindrell, Wesley TIndrell and Everett “Skip” Tindrell and Dawnelle Conley; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family and friends.
