Paula Jean Smallwood

Paula Jean Smallwood was born September 8, 1953 in Freeport, Illinois; the daughter of Tom Davis, Jr. and Arlene Houston. She graduated from Freeport Sr. High School.

After graduating from high school received her training to become a CNA. She spent most of her life as a caregiver while working in many of the area nursing homes.

While living in Freeport, Paula attended Faith Temple Church of God In Christ, under the leadership of Rev. Lynn Hawkins. She served as a church Mother and usher. After moving to Des Moines she joined Bread of Life Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Steven Carter and continued her service to God as a church Mother and usher.

Paula was a movie fanatic! She loved watching Sci-Fi, spending time with her family, hosting family meals, because she loved a good plate of food. She looked out for the less fortunate. You could always "get a couch" at her house if you had no place to stay. She loved the Lord and always wanted her children to as well. Ms. Paula had a quiet side, but she also had a feisty side that you didn't want to play with. She loved the outdoors, walking in the woods, and storms.

On April 14, 2022 Paul Jean Smallwood made her final transition. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arlene and Tom Davis Jr.; her son, Kerry Smallwood, and a sister, Virginia Arberry, and her son-in-law

Left to cherish Paulas memory's are her children, Everett Houston and Jenise Lucas; two siblings, Charles Davis and Patricia Marshall, along with a host of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
