Shelia Newman

Shelia Ann Cooks-Newman was born August 1, 1956 in Garden City, Louisiana to James Robertson and Melva (Bob) Robertson. She received her primary education in Louisiana, graduating from Franklin High School in Franklin, Louisiana. Shelia also attended the American Institute of Commerce in Cedar Falls, IA. Looking for a better life and wanting to be near her children, Shelia relocated to Des Moines in 2013.

Shelias caring spirit led her to a life of service. She spent time taking care of dependent adults. She was employed by the Waterloo Community School District where she retired in 2010.

But retirement didnt mean sit down for Shelia. She spent a lot of time taking care of the grandchildren and helping her children through life. Shelia loved playing games on the computer and watching old school westerns. Gunsmoke was her favorite. She also had a favorite soap, Days of Our Lives. Shelia liked listening to the old school slow jams. And you all know, Shelia loved to cook and then EAT! She would cook way too much and loved telling folks, "Just dont eat it all." She was a very loving and giving person.

On January 24, 2018 Shelia was called from labor to reward at the age 61. Waiting to welcome her to the other side were her husband, Willie Newman; her parents, James and Melva Robertson; her grandparents, Willie and Sedonia Bob and Randolph and Louise Robertson; her aunt, Delores Watson and her grandson, Jullius Humphrey.

Left to cherish Shelias memory are her daughters, Chassity Cooks and Antionette Watson; her siblings, LaTonya Robertson and Warren Robertson; her grandchildren, Bryant, Eryca, Shaleaha and Aryon and her great grandchildren, Amirah, Ashiyah, Ke`Ary, Tyler and Kyson; along with a host of extended family and friends.
