Thomas Wright Sr.

Thomas Wright , age 67, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019 at Taylor Hospice. Thomas was born on June 12th, 1951 in Swiftown, Mississippi. He was raised in Waterloo and eventually relocated to Des Moines, Iowa.

Thomas loved sports, especially the Raiders and the Cyclones. He collected memorabilia from all of his teams, and his favorite drink was Coca Cola. Thomas was always helping people from fixing cars to letting them move into his house until they were able to get back on their feet. He would simply say, "Im a good guy." He loved his family, fishing and CNN News.

Thomas was a member of Laborers Local 177 for 17 years retiring in 2010. He started his own construction company, Two Rivers Construction. After retiring he became involved in politics.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Joan; children, Tommy (Julmyra) Wright, Jr., Raoulyn (James) Mullins, Tarif (Makayla) Wright, Jamil (Mataya) Wright of Des Moines, Iowa, Leslie (Darryl) Tarbor of Waterloo, Iowa, and Andre (Kinda) Kapayou of Cedar Rapids; 5 sisters; 6 brothers; 18 grandkids; and 35 great grandkids.

Thomas was preceded in death by his father, Russell Wright; mother Maggie Smith; 3 brothers; and his 3 sisters.

Thomas Wright Sr. passed away on April 19, 2019. A public visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at Mt Olive Missionary Baptist Church at 3100 2nd Ave, Des Moines, IA 50313 . A celebration of life service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Visitation (with family present)
