Trixie Ward

Trixie Wells Ward was born March 26, 1932 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa to Florence Wells and Peter Waples. She was the second of eight children.



Trixie attended the local schools and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School, in 1950. She moved to Des Moines, Iowa and attended Broadlawns School of Nursing and graduated with her L.P.N. license. She was employed at Des Moines General Hospital in Des Moines and Hospital of the Stars in California. She was also employed by many of the nursing homes in Des Moines.



Trixie was raised in the Methodist faith and joined Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church when she moved to Des Moines. While there she served by singing in the choir.



Trixie met and married Naomis A. Ward, Sr. in 1951. They were married for thirty years and from this union four children were born: Naomis Jr., Stephanie, Valentino and Pierre.



Trixie loved to sing, was a great dancer and liked playing cards with her girlfriends. She also liked socializing with friends at the local V.F.W. She had a beautiful smile and wry sense of humor.



Trixie passed peacefully from this life on January 2, 2014. She was 81 years old. She was preceded in death by her sons, Naomis Ward, Jr. and Valentino Ty Ward; her parents, Florence Dabner and Peter Waples; ex-husband, Naomis Ward, Sr. and her sisters, Barbara Harrison and Joy Wells.



Left to mourn Trixie's passing are her children, Stephanie Calister, Pierre Ward and stepson, James Carl; her sisters, Marilyn Wilson, Allies Russell, Katherine Martin, Linda Bradley and her brother, Elmer Wells. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Naomis Ward III, Kennetta Calister, Kenneth Calister, Jr, Kellie Calister and Brianna Ward, 7 great grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
