Wayne Slayden Sr.

Wayne Slayden Sr., 87, of Rochester, MN, and formerly of Des Moines, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the Blair Chapel Cemetery in St. Charles, Iowa, at 3:00 p.m.

He was born in Iowa on October 30, 1938, to Ammon and Grace (Wright) Slayden. Wayne grew up in Des Moines where he attended school. After school, he joined the Army on April 25, 1955, and was honorably discharged on May 18, 1957. Once returning home he married Gertrude Rose on November 22, 1957, in Des Moines. The couple moved to Isabella, MN where they purchased and ran the Evergreen Resort there. Wayne loved being a hunting and fishing guide. In 1976, they moved back to Des Moines where he began trucking for Consolidated Freight Way. Not long after he opened his own trucking company. They enjoyed living in Pheonix, AZ for many years as well.

Wayne loved spending time with his family, over the road trucking, hunting, fishing, and riding his Goldwing motorcycle.

Those left to cherish his loving memory are his children Carol (Nat) Daggs, Debbie Platt, and Wayne Slayden Jr.; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son Ammon Slayden, and granddaughter Sheri Slayden.

Hendersons Funeral & Cremation Care has been entrusted with the care of Wayne and his family.
